Australian Skilled Migration Program

The scope of this section is to provide useful brief information to the people who intend to migrate to Australia. They can check if they are eligible and meet the criteria of making successful permanent residence visa application. Most of the material, presented here, has been extracted from Australian department of Immigration web site www.immi.gov.au and all the useful links have been provided on the left of the screen. More details can be found by clicking on these links and checking out further details regarding any particular topic or point.
Australian Migration Process:
This process is based on Points System and other eligibility criteria. Following is a breif examination of the two:
1-Points System:
You must pass points test by accumulating at least 120 marks. If you don't meet this requirement than you will not be able to make a valid visa application and it will be refused.Following are the factors which are responsible for determining that how many points you can obtain:
1.1-Age:
You must be between 18 to 45 years of age at the time of application.The following table lists the points you will be awarded based on your age group at the time you apply.

1.2 Nominated Skilled Occupation:
Your occupation must be on department of immigration's nominated occupation list and you must also get your qualification assessed by national assessment authority.This assessment must be positive and should reward you with 60,50 or 40 points.Please see the table below:

1.3-English Language Requirement:
A compulsory Enlish language test (IELTS) must be undertaken to determine your english language skills and the number of points that you can be rewarded.Please see the tables below:

1.4-Specific Work Experience:
If you have specific work experience regarding your nominated occupation than you might be able to claim extra 5 or 10 points.Please see the table below:

1.5-Occupation In Demand/Job Offer:
If your nominated occupation is on department of immigration's occupation in demand list or you have a job offer from an Australian company than you might be rewarded an extra 15 or 20 points.Please see the table below:

1.6-Australian Qualifications:
You can be awarded points for Australian qualification.Please see the table below:

1.7- Spouse Skills:
You may be able to claim an extra '5' points if your husband or wife can also satisfy the basic requirements of age, English language ability, qualifications, nominated occupation and recent work experience, and if he or she has obtained a suitable skills assessment from the relevant assessing authority.Please see the table below:

1.8-Bonus Points:
Under the point test, you can claim '5' points if you meet any of the following three requirements. Note: you can only claim '5' bonus points even if you meet all the three requirements.Please see the table below:

1.8.1-Capital investment in Australia:
You have to invest at least $100,000 Australian Dollars in an approved goverment investment for a minimum of one full year to be able to claim these '5' points.
1.8.2-Australian Work Experience:
You are eligible to be awarded these bonus points if you have been employed in Australia:
- in an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL)
- while holding a visa that allows you to work
- for a period(s) totaling at least six (6) months in the 48 months immediately before the day you lodge your application.
1.8.3-Australian community language:
To be eligible for these bonus points you must be fluent in one of the community languages i.e 'Urdu'.'Fluent' means you have professional level language skills (written or oral) as evidenced by a qualification (of equivalent standard to an Australian degree) gained from a university where instruction was in 'Urdu"or be accredited with the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) at the professional level (translator/interpreter level).
2-Other Eligibility Criteria:
This include meeting Health and Character etc, requirements. You have to have a good character with no criminal record either in Australia or Overseas and also need to have a good heath.Please visit Immigration web site to learn more about these requirements.

Conclusion:
If the result of above table is '120' or more points than I will encourage you to seek professional advice regarding making a successful visa application for Australian permanent residency. Australia is a multicultural country and a great place to live and enjoy life. As an Australian Citizen and Australian passport holder in the future , you will enjoy a great freedom in traveling the world for business or leisure purposes.
